“I Just Don’t Know What To Say To Them!” | How To Have A Quality Conversation

“I JUST DON’T KNOW WHAT TO SAY TO THEM!”

I was with friends last night & as friends are, conversations get very interesting sometimes.

Of course after the initial weather opinions, work issues, latest movies / television or news items, & even children, I saw the conversation tones shift.

When you do more listening than providing all the subject matters, you can actually feel & sense the changes in topic degrees.

Suddenly, the group conversation became a little more deep, in the sense of real thoughts & feelings people have about themselves, their ‘other halves’,  friends, & families.

It was by no means dark & serious, instead a good healthy honest feelings among those who truly trust one another.

Today, I want you think about real quality conversations you have had with your family, spouse, friends or any of those your truly trust.

Do you even know what to say, where to start, how to say things or bring up more quality discussions with those you trust?

No, it’s not going to scare them away, these are topics or questions that just make you think deeper than asking someone what they thought about the ___ results (fill in the topic).

Need some ideas of how to have a genuine conversation with someone with a little deeper topics, instead of sending a message in a bottle?

I’m going to share a few with you, it may trigger other questions that may pop up in your particular issue or relationship.

Remember, these are presented in the form of questions to get the conversation going.

You also don’t need very many questions to get things started, & it’s amazing how the conversation just takes off.

How to have a quality conversation

What are your secret ambitions, your goals for your life?

What has been the hardest experience of your life?

What are your deep, or deepest fears?

What is the happiest thing that has ever happened to you?

What people do you most admire, & why?

What about me do you appreciate the most?

What traits of mine would you like to see changed?

As you can see, these are not superficial questions that trap someone into telling how fat your butt looks in those pants.

Honestly, these will not dampen any conversation & you will be surprised at how much you can learn about people, their inner thoughts, feelings & ambitions.

If you have someone you feel is a true friend, faithful spouse or whomever, try some of these questions & you’ll be amazed at how much you may not have known about them.

Then just go with the flow of the unscripted conversation & enjoy what you hear knowing that you are being trusted with someone’s inner most thoughts.

  1. Loved this message today Linda. Sometimes we get so busy with life, that we forget the things that matter most…like how well we know those closest to us. You offered so many great tips on how to have a quality conversation and I love the touch of humor you added by saying these aren’t superficial questions, like do these pants make my butt look fat:) Great share!
