“STOP TELLING ME TO BE POSITIVE!”
Does this sound familiar?
Have you hear someone so irritated blurt this out.
Well, I’m sure at some point you may have even over heard this comment. The other person meant well by trying to help.
But, telling someone “to be more positive” when they going through a bunch a garbage at the time, is not the best way thing to suggest. In fact, it’s not going to be taken very well.
When you’re in the middle of struggles, pressures, your down, & can’t even see the light of day, having someone you tell you “just be positive”, is just a request to be smacked into next week! This is the last thing you need to hear. I get that, I know, I’ve been there.
Now, if you want to help someone, then just listen…
Don’t offer any “it’ll be better tomorrow,” “I know how you feel,” “you’ll be just fine,” & certainly don’t offer any “advice”. Never say these things, just listen…
Why? they’re not ready, they don’t want to hear it yet, you’re the last one to be counseling them because they know you & your background, just listen…
Now, when someone is ready to “try” to be more positive, there’s a few easy words to help them think before they speak, lose their temper or feel down again.
Instead of dwelling on the bad, negative, down feelings, dwell on these things instead.
HERE’S AN EASY WAY TO BE MORE POSITIVE FOCUSED
Dwell on:
Whatever is right.
Whatever is admirable.
Whatever is praiseworthy.
Whatever is noble.
Whatever is true.
Whatever is excellent.
Whatever is beautiful.
Whatever is pure.
Of course these take practice. But when there’s something nasty about to come out of your mouth, then think of one of these thoughts/words instead.
The object is to catch yourself during your thought process, to change your negative, hateful thoughts to one or more of these that I’ve listed.
The secret is to make this process a ‘habit’ before you speak, to help to change your thoughts into something more positive & healthy for you.

Stopping the monkey chatter is the goal. I like your quotes to be more positive focused. I have to say I usually start to hum or sing, block out the negative thought so that I can not hear it.. works for me. Thanks Linda your posts are always an inspiration.
