“Why Can’t I Just Do It Over Again!” | Here are REAL ANSWERS to the question: “If I had it to do over again”

“WHY CAN’T I JUST DO IT OVER AGAIN!”

Have you ever heard anyone say this; “why can’t I just do it over again?”

Maybe you yourself wished there was something you wished you could do over again if you had the chance.

Those opportunities rarely happen.

But since experience teaches us that, we learn from our mistakes, that would be an awesome privilege wouldn’t it.

True Story:  Some time ago, I did an actual study regarding that very thought.

During the process of my own study, I interviewed random people, random patients, random family members over the course of a year.

There was nothing ‘scientific’ about it, instead it was just a simple question to each of person, at various times, over the course of time, to various age groups, & all were asked privately, the same question.

Interestingly, the answers from hundreds of people were quite similar

What was even more interesting, their responses to that simple phrase, was also much like those of  another unknown author, I came across a short time ago.  They apparently had done their own type of survey, much more recently than mine, using a similar type of question/phrase.

This finding made me think about, my own study of this simple phrase even more, in the sense of how many people everywhere would love to have this ‘real’ opportunity, to do something over again, if only they could.

Today, I would like to share with you what I found as a result of my study about ‘do-overs’.

Here are the REAL ANSWERS to the question:  “IF I HAD IT TO DO OVER AGAIN”…

I would listen more, even to the youngest child.

I would pay more attention to little things, deeds, & words of love & kindness.

I would do more, with my children.

I would be more encouraging, & give more praise.

I would love my wife / husband more, in front of my children.

I would be more honest about my own weaknesses & stop pretending perfection.

I would laugh with my children & friends more, at our mistakes & our joys.

I would pray differently, for my family.

I would enjoy life more & work less.

I would have been in less of a hurry all the time.

I would spend more time, to BE in the moment.

I would believe, more in myself.

I would thank God more, for providing for me.

I would make time, for others.

These were the actual most common answers received.

What did this tell me?

This simple study told me, we all know the right things to do or say, but we do NOT take the time to just do it.

Instead, these are the after-thoughts we have, although we really do know better.

So, for now imagine someone like me randomly coming up to you & asking you an out of the blue question & how you would answer it, let me try this one more time.

“If you had it to do over again”,  in ONE short sentence, what would you say…

“It is never too late, to be what you might have been”…

See you tomorrow…

  1. What a great question! Gosh … if I had to do it all over again, I would definitely let my younger self know that I really was OK just the way I was. I wasted so much time worrying about what everyone thought! What a waste of time that was!

And I love this response …

“I would enjoy life more & work less”

That about sums it up for a lot of people I think 🙂

Erica, you’ve nailed it, that is a perfect response if you had to do it all over again. Thank you for your thoughts, I love it, always.

  2. “I would enjoy life more & work less” This is something my mother used to say all the time. It was her Mantra later on in life….. “I would believe, more in myself.” that would be my do again…. It’s taken all my life to get to that point now, I wish I had it when I was younger…I would have stopped at nothing. LOL Thanks Linda always great posts and great advice..

Thank you Rhonda, your mother was a wise woman & are you!. It’s taken us all our lives to get here, but, if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn’t have been ready for it, personally. Thank you for your thoughts.
