“All I Want Is To Find A Great Mentor!” | Here’s what to look for in a great mentor.

“ALL I WANT IS TO FIND A GREAT MENTOR!”

If you are really serious about learning something new, sharpen your passion or even build a successful business, what do you need?

Obviously a great mentor.

Doing anything alone when you’re new at it & have never done it before, is really scary.

However, what can be even scarier, is putting all of your energy, time, trust, & even money in the wrong “mentor” can be a disaster.

There’s too many things that can go wrong & probably the most devastating, is being abandoned by the very person you put all your trust in.

Yes, that has happened to so many people, & there  you are, alone trying to figure out what to do.

Here’s what to look for in a GREAT MENTOR:

(Someone who is)….

Always learning.

Genuinely caring.

Enthusiastic about change.

Trustworthy & respected.

Flexible.

Aware of their values.

Courageous enough to be forthright.

Growing in self-awareness.

Positive, inspirational & motivating.

Forward looking.

Action oriented.

Realistically optimistic.

Listens even when you are down.

********************************************************************

A Great Mentor can have many more qualities than those listed here.

The secret is, to find someone who is unconditionally interested in you & in helping you whether you’re at your best or even when you’re at your worst.

Watch how they treat other people, see if they’re consistent in their behavior.

I’ve had many many mentors over the years & they all had one common denominator, inconsistency in everything & the worst was never being there for me when I needed them the most.

I’m sure many of you may have experience what I’m talking about.

I do know there are many good mentors out there if you look hard enough.

But for me, I never found a good mentor.

Instead, I found the greatest mentor, ever…

  1. This is the best kept secret of all in finding a great mentor … “find someone who is unconditionally interested in you”.

Once again you’ve given me a lot of food for thought!

    Love your work Linda!
    e!

  2. The truth is, not all ‘successful’ people are capable of being a mentor to other people. They just shouldn’t do it. I know just one or two people who tick off all the wonderful qualities in your list Linda. It’s a true pleasure to work with genuine leaders like that.
