“I JUST CAN’T DO THIS ANYMORE, WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME!”
You’re working & have been doing this for a long time, but for some reason, it just feels different.
What is it, the people, the tasks, the hours, your health??
It could be all of the above, or maybe it’s something you never considered before.
In order to handle this appropriately, you may need to look at another possibility: burnout.
Burnout can happen for many reasons;
- Lack of support for what you’re doing
- Working towards someone else’s goals & not your own
- Not having any control or input of how you do your job
- Not fulfilling your own desires or goals for so long
There are an incredible number of reasons for burnout, other than the common ones I’ve listed above.
Only you can determine if burnout pertains to you, or if you’re just plain exhausted from from long hours.
Whatever you decide, just know that exhaustion from long hours, has nothing to do with burnout.

Here are the BASIC signs of Burnout
Change in appetite.
Hard to get motivated.
Difficulty making decisions.
Lack of energy.
Poor concentration.
Lowered productivity.
Loos of enjoyment.
Lack of interest.
Trouble sleeping.
Avoiding people.

Burnout is a career changer & it will not pass once it hits you.
You can try to fight through it, but your performance will be greatly affected.
If any of these factors (& these are only a few) add up to your situation & has nothing to do with exhaustion from increased hours, it’s time to re-evaluate yourself.
You haven’t failed at anything, you have just changed your heart, your drive & your goals.
It may be time to have a serious conversation with yourself & find out what it is you really want to do with your own life.

All of those symptoms of burnout up there.. I had ’em! Couldn’t sleep, didn’t want to socialize, loss of appetite and even enjoyment of life. My job was killing me slowly and that is why I left.
Some folks just accept it as a “way of life.” For all of the people going through this, it doesn’t have to last forever. Life can be enjoyable again! 🙂
