“I DO NOT WANT TO GET ANY OLDER!”
Have you heard this statement??
Of course you have, many of you say it all the time don’t you.
Doesn’t do any good does it because it’s still going to happen, in fact, it occurs every moment of every day!
This is the reality of life, so accept it.
Be honest, haven’t you learned a lot since you were younger? Of course you have & you’re a better person too.
Somehow, you have got to find a way to support what’s happening to all of us; we’re just getting older, that’s what “aging” is about.
Here are some thoughts for you to think about aging in another light, but only read them if you have an open mind.
********************************
Here’s how you SHOULD be looking a aging
Don’t regret it: appreciate it.
Don’t ignore it: accept it.
Don’t resist it: welcome it.
Don’t complain: enjoy it.
Don’t dread it: embrace it.
Don’t panic about it: plan for it.
*******************************************
Aging is a number, a label, a category, a marker.
However, aging does NOT define you: it’s your experience, your accomplishments, your courage, your strength, your character that defines you.
For those of you who are hung up by the “number” you are, I have to ask, “WHY”.
Do you think for one moment that you would have developed those things that truly define you at a younger age?
Absolutely NOT!
So, all I can say to those of you who are still not at peace with your aging: “Build a bridge & get your yourself!” Because you’re beautiful!!
You’re Welcome!
***********************
“Accept what is, let go of what was, & have faith in what will be”….

Thank you Linda and it’s so true – we wouldn’t be where we are now without out previous years lessons. I’m appreciating my age and my smile lines. I was told the other day I look 10 years younger so I’m going to run with that and live that age but with 10 years experience under my belt!
Oh Michelle, they are so right!!! Without our hard lessons in life, we don’t learn or gain the strength we need to carry ourselves on. We also don’t learn as well unless we go through the experiences ourselves. Thankyou Michelle, I appreciate your input.
so true Linda,
What we think about ageing is exactly that a thinking process.
We are who we are at any one time and to enjoy that is truly a blessing
and a stepping stone to the next moment
Thankyou Linda
Di
Thank you Di. No, none of us want to age, however, to embrace the later years with the experience & knowledge to know more about what we want than ever before, is a welcoming thought!! Keep traveling as you do because you make it look effortlessly.
Age is just a number – and I’d rather know what I know now from the experience of time than what I thought I knew when I was younger!! Now I really now the important things in life from many of the non- important things – that’s not to say I know it all – I never will and always learning but i think being open to keeping on learning keeps us young at heart! Thanks for a wonderful post Linda
Amen to that Sandra! Yes having the experiences & knowledge does help. Now we can better use that knowledge to know what we want!! Enjoy & thank you Sandra.
Reframe. Reframe. Reframe!! When you catch yourself in any kind of negative thinking, about anything, you need to either kick it out of your mind or reframe it. It’s very true that every experience of your life has made you who you are today, even if the lessons have been painful at times. You should be grateful for your age. 🙂
Absoulutely, I’m “re-framing” all the time! My Dad was right all those years he told me “you learn from your mistakes!” Wow, have I learned a lot. Thank you Shaun, I appreciate your thoughts.
Every once in awhile, I’m out in public and I come across a very old person. They are, more often than not, walking very slowly (almost painfully), sometimes a bit hunched over. I do have to admit that seeing that scares the crap out of me! I am a hiker. I love riding my bike. I love to run. When I’m hiking with my Dad and he has to stop often or has to tell me to go ahead because he’s unable to continue, it really does scare me. He used to run up those mountains!
I can’t know how I’ll feel when I’m that old and unable to climb a mountain or jump on my bike. Perhaps that’s why I do it so much… because I’m able to now. I do like to think that when I reach that age, I can learn to be so grateful for all that I’ve experienced in my life and all of the knowledge that I’ve learned. Age is something that cannot be controlled. It’s coming whether I like it or not, so with that said, I’m going hiking! 🙂
I was a hiker, walker, runner, biker, climber, slalom skier (water), horse trainer, refinisher, ball player-all sports…… I am sooo grateful I had those times & truly do miss them since my accident last year. My brother has spent this past year fussing at me because my mind says “sure you can”. but my body is broken.
I’m not old, I’ve just surrendered to the gravity of the earth which has pulled me down slower. The docs tell me still: just keep your 2 feet on the ground in whatever you do. Golf & walking has been chosen for now. I watched my parents, especially my mother debilitate from aging severely & that, like you with your Dad, scares the &%$# out of me. But, be grateful for the experiences, the knowledge & the opportunities. You have a lot of active life left in you my friend & I’m glad you’re taking advantage of it. Thank you Heather.
