I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO EXERCISE!
(How to fit exercise into your day WITHOUT going to a gym)
OKAY, I hear you you don’t have time, money or desire to exercise.
I GET IT. I get it
I hear this all the time from patients & others, “Don’t tell me to go join a gym, I can’t afford it”, “I don’t have time”….
I will tell you right now, you don’t have to go to a gym, join a gym or class, shell out any money or even think about an organized way of exercising.
Quite honestly, you can do it on your own, “NO WAIT, I KNOW YOU DON’T HAVE TIME”… just wait a second, hang on, just keep reading.
I have another way that I have been advising patients of for years, & those around me (who wanted to listen), about another way of exercising.
In fact, some of you may already be doing this or some of these now.
If you are, I’m so proud of you.
But here are my thoughts about the subject of exercise.
I DON’T HAVE TIME TO EXERCISE!!
(HOW TO FIT EXERCISE INTO YOUR DAY, WITHOUT GOING TO THE GYM)
Leave your car parked at the farthest end of a parking lot & walk vigorously to your destination or store. Walk completely around the mall BEFORE you start shopping, walk directly to the back of a store, then shop moving towards the front of that store.
Take an exercise break INSTEAD of a coffee break. Keep a pair of tennis shoes at your office/work & walk around the block a couple of times. If you can’t go outside, walk up & down the stairs of the building during your break.
If it’s practical, ride your bike to work instead of taking a car or other transportation. If this is not practical, ride your bike or walk on errands or when going to the market/store.
If you take the bus, train, or subway to work or school, don’t board it at the closest stop to your home. Instead, make it a habit to walk to a stop twenty or best yet 30 minutes away.
Use the stairs instead of the elevator. Set a rule for yourself that any time you are going up or down fewer than 5 floors, you take the stairs.
Set your alarm 15 minutes early each day, & take a short brisk walk to a special place or a distance, near your home. This is the best way to get your circulation going & wake you up first thing in the morning.
If you can not find 30-50 minutes a day for regular exercise everyday, do the next best thing. Find 5, 10-minute internals throughout the day to get up & move around.
During or just after your lunch time, go outside or to a mall & walk for 30 minutes briskly. If this is the only time you can carve out of a day, BOOM, you’ve done your workout for the entire day.
While at home, if you’re watching TV, ride an exercise bike, walk on a treadmill, or other equipment. If you don’t have any of the equipment, jump rope, or do 10 situps during every commercial break of any 1 hour program you watch. Build yourself up to 20 situps, then 30, & finally 50.
If you have no way to fit any exercise into your work day, when you get home from work, make yourself go & walk the neighborhood for 30 minutes. This is a great way to empty you mind of any stress from the day & clear your thoughts, & to get yard/landscape ideas from your neighbors yards.
Everyone, regardless of your denial status, can do at least 3 of the suggestions I’ve listed above.
I don’t think I need to preach to you about the importance of your health & exercise.
For those of you who are spending your work days on the computer, these steps I’ve listed are extremely important for you to do every day!!!
Last thoughts about this exercise thing, if any of you think you can’t do these or they’re silly, I want to tell you something about exercise.
Exercise is the only way to rebuild & maintain your strength, stamina & body health. If you don’t exercise everyday, you lose; strength, muscle tone, respiratory & circulatory stamina. Your body doesn’t ask for anything, but the best thing you can do for your own good health is exercise.
Since my accident, I have worked up to daily incorporating every one of these exercise tips into my own home therapy program in one way or another. The last one I’m still working on to succeed is the 5 flights of stairs, but I’m still working on it.
YOU are the only one who can change your habits, I would advise you to start changing this one today.
“You can’t change, what you refuse to confront”…
I hope enjoyed today’s blog & were able to take something away from this subject.. Please leave me your comments below, I would love to hear them. Most importantly, thank you for visiting my post.
See you tomorrow……

It’s amazing how many extra steps one can add to one’s daily routines, which when compounded over time will generously lead to enhanced health and well-being. You always have the best ideas Linda!
Many people reject the words; exercise, work out, gym, healthy…. So an alternative approach is the one I have taken with patients in order to even get them to listen. So many follow the advise IF I keep those “other” words out of the conversation. Can you say ‘reverse psychology’ or trickery, I don’t care, as long as they do something. And don’t even get me started on the art of weight lifting; soup & vegetable cans, vacuuming stretches, sweeping lunges, bed making aerobics, lawn mowing sledding, leaf raking twists, shoveling step ups, etc…….. Yeah, there’s lots of ways for those in denial, or are phobic about the thoughts of those words.
chur great advice that I too believe in as well walk walk walk everywhere you can I may even walk to my regular walks as well hahaha so easy to take the car aye.Choice Blog Linda xxx
Missy that’s so true. I walk into town to the Post Office to mail a letter instead of just putting in my mailbox, just so I get in a good walk. It’s always a new adventure because undoubtedly, I see something new every time I walk somewhere. Thanks Missy for your thoughts,k I love it.
