“I DON’T NEED TO LEARN ANYTHING NEW!”
Are you sure about that?
Do you REALLY think you don’t need to learn anything else, that you have all the information you need to live life & be successful?
OH MY, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you are in for a big surprise.
Have you heard these:
“..I’ve been through school, I have a college degree & a graduate degree. I already know what I’m doing, I run a successful business, I have a good job. I”m practicing what I’ve learned & have more than you’ll ever see in your lifetime”….
“..I learned all I need to know to get by, I went to the school of; Hard Knocks, that taught me more than any program ever could. I’m fine”…
These are 2 comments that I have actually heard, yup, real life, true comments from 2 different individuals.
WOW huh, vaguely sound like something you may have heard?
Well, I’m sure each of you have heard some sort of variation of these along the way.
But, can you see what is actually missing here in these 2 comments? Read them again…
Neither one of them, or variations similar have the main key: Authentic – Genuine Growth.
The lack the internal growth within themselves. Book smart & street (hard knocks) smart alone, is not going to develop you as a quality person.
HERE ARE THE SECRETS OF GENUINE GROWTH
(Do you have any of these?)
Provide an example, of commitment & integrity.
Lead, as I would like to be lead.
Constantly focus on strengths of all with whom I come in contact.
Have a passion for excellence.
Savor the flavor of each passing moment.
Infuse every thought & relationship with faith, hope, love, & gratitude.
Ask, listen, & hear: to determine the wants, needs, & possibilities of all with whom I come in contact.
Follow a path of continual empowerment for myself & others.
Cultivate optimum physical, mental, & spiritual fitness.
These are what is required for authentic – genuine growth.
These are the things you don’t learn in schools, on the streets, or on your own without an open mind.
These are the things that make you an outstanding person, an individual that people look up to, a leader that has a passion for others, more than themselves.
These are what makes a person that you too would like to be.
Develop these growth qualities, it’s never to late.
But the secret is: you have to believe these are within you & consistently use them every moment of everyday, with out fail…
“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment, before starting to improve themselves”….
See you tomorrow…

Thanks for sharing your post Linda, personally this is a great reminder, the qualities we need to possess for positive authentic genuine growth must be used consistently, this helps us break through our barriers…
Thank you Chris. You said it perfectly, “the qualities we need to possess for positive authentic genuine growth must be used consistently”…AMEN. Chris you nailed it. Thanks.
Right on Linda.
I even had a friend say : “I don’t want any more friends”…. wow!!!!I questioned her on this…
Yep she didn’t want to meet any new people….
It doesn’t seem to be age that these types of words come from… it is about the attitude and how the person sees themselves and if they know why they are here….
Great topic Linda
Thank you once again
Di
Di thank you, you’re so right, this is NOT as age thing about not wanting to learn anything new, it’s just an International thing. Sad how your friend has her friend quota filled, you never know who you might meet around the corner that could change your whole life!
This is all so important Linda, all your SECRETS OF GENUINE GROWTH are spot on. “Cultivate optimum physical, mental, & spiritual fitness.” This is a great one, but not as easy as it rolls off the tough..LOL. Finding time in our busy day to allow for each of these moments I find is really difficult. I really have to plan my time, so I can get some good quite time in there somewhere for myself…and that does not always happen..Thanks Linda..
Rhonda thank you, I know these are not easy for everyone, but pieces are doable for everyone. The one about ‘cultivate optimum physical, mental & physical’ is hard to find time for, but it’s so worth it. You can only go so long at the pace you’re going before your body is going to start to object. Etching out time somewhere, will pay your & your body dividends in the long run & longevity of life. You cannot be left over with whatever is left for time, it’s too important for your body/mind. Thank you for your thoughts Rhonda.
Linda – I just love your blog posts. They resonate so deeply. What you talk about is good common sense and some core values that seems like many people forgot about or maybe were never taught. Thanks so much!
Nancy you’re so sweet, thank you. I think I’m just ‘old school’, I’ve counseled patients/families like that for years, on good common sense & core values. It’s true, so many have not been blessed with good up-bringing like I did. I’m so grateful for a solid family life to have experienced & sad for those who didn’t. So I just want to share.
Even worse than “I don’t need to learn anything new!” is the person who says … “I already know that!” Both block the door to so many new possibilities.
And I LOVE this piece advice so much, “Ask, listen, & hear: to determine the wants, needs, & possibilities of all with whom I come in contact” … just BRILLIANT!
Oh Erica, I agree 100% that’s a brick wall. However, I’ll add another one I’ve heard so often: “We don’t do it that way, we’ve always done it like this”… again refusing to learn anything new. The “ask, listen & learn” is a great way to test yourself if you have really HEARD the other person correctly & asked them appropriately. Too many people spend all their time talking & never listening or just “being” in the moment of what’s going on. Thank you for your great feedback, as always, I Love it.
It’s really amazing the attitude that some ‘educated’ people have towards doing anything about their own self improvement outside of a structured learning environment. It’s sad, but we have to let people come to their own decisions. Being the example to them is often the best way to go. 🙂
Shaun, you are soo right, “being the example”.. is often the best way to do this. Too many will not take the time to learn, feel they don’t need to learn & won’t budge. So, the world moves on without them & will have to also wait for them to catch up. Thank you Shaun, I love your thoughts.
