“I Just Can’t Do That!” | How to develop the COURAGE to do what you thought you couldn’t.

“I JUST CAN’T DO THAT!”

Hmmm, you don’t think you can do what.  You can do anything!

Yes, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!  You can do anything you set your mind to.

If you think you can’t, then you lack:  COURAGE.

We are all born without fear, the courage to do anything.  That’s right, NO FEAR.

Ah, you don’t believe me?

Watch a baby, they put anything in their mouths, they touch anything, they have a fear of nothing.

Fear is a learned behavior.  It’s something we’ve learned, that we’ve become afraid of, as we’ve experimented while growing.

Courage is a learned behavior also.  It’s something we’ve put into our minds that enables us to face things without feeling inhibited.

Although most people treat courage like fear, & give up once we’ve failed one time from it.

Courage, however, is part of our integrity.  Courage is what makes us who we are, part of our credibility as a person.

I have some examples of what real courage is.  Pay close attention to these & see which ones you have.

HOW TO DEVELOP THE COURAGE TO DO WHAT YOU THOUGHT YOU COULDN’T

Facing a limitation & giving it your very best, regardless of pain or discomforts.

Sharing your heart honestly

(including your feelings, fears & failures).

Standing up for something you believe in, even though it might mean rejection, ridicule, or even physical harm.

Taking a risk.

Telling the truth & accepting the consequences.

Being the only one.  Standing alone if you have to, for what you believe.

Saying “no”when people are trying to get you to do something you know you shouldn’t.

Giving sacrificially to protect or promote either someone you love, someone who has been wronged, or someone who is in need.

Speaking to someone you don’t know.

Confronting a fear without running away.

Doing what is right, when everyone else isn’t.

Admitting you are wrong.

Living your faith with all your heart, mind, soul, & strength regardless of the cost.

You must understand that YOU, can do anything you want.

BUT, you must Believe in yourself, Build your character, & have the Courage to develop the qualities for your Integrity.

“Believe you can, & you’re halfway there”…….

See you tomorrow…

  1. We can all get past fear if we push ourselves Linda. I read a book years back called Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway. (cannot remember the author) but it stuck with me. I used to be terrified of heights to the point I hated going up stairs. I went abseiling and rock climbing to conquer it. That helped me have courage to do so many other things.
I agree with you we must believe in ourselves. That is where it starts.
A great post as always Linda.

Sue you are so right. It all starts with our own belief in ourselves, without that, we’re nothing. I hadn’t seen that book, but would like to read it. Thank you for sharing your fear accomplishment, congrats!

  2. It seems as you get older new fears surface, you tackle one and another pops up, but in saying that I think you start to look at fear differently. Sometimes fear is a great challenge.
It always helps to have someone to bounce ideas off, LOL I liked this saying “You must understand that YOU, can do anything you want.” it really and simply is true. Thanks Linda.

I agree with you Rhonda, our fears do change as we age, as does the magnitude of those fears, some higher, some lower. Brainstorming & objective feedback is so healthy & beneficial to us for sure. Anyone can do anything they want, it’s yours for the choosing, but the secret is to “Just Do It”! Thank you Rhonda for your thoughts, I always love to hear from you.

  3. to believe in ourselves is such a huge subject and so easy to say.

Then as Rhonda said our believes change as we grow and age and experience life.

For me, ike you say, sharing myself as honestly as I can in every single situation every single day really has given me the confidence to keep sharing in every single situation this has helped HEAPS in my self believe and my clarity the come more self believe.

    Thank you Linda
