Why Don’t You Want To Be More Creative? | How to have more creativity in your thinking.

Why Don’t You Want to be More Creative?

So many people have the idea in their head, they know all there is to be more creative & / or productive.

Does this sound about how you feel too?

Well, I hope not, because if it does sound like you, then you aren’t open minded about learning new things.

For those of you who ARE open minded about learning new things, I want you to pay close attention to this, because it may give you a bit more ideas.

Many times, in order for us to be more creative or even productive, we just need something to trigger our thoughts.

That is what I want to share with you today.

I want to share some thoughts that may give you a word, a sentence, a visual or a thought that will spark that idea into your mind.

What you see may even give you a thought you hadn’t ever thought of, & that will be even better, giving you new thoughts.

Now, if you think you don’t need anything else to think about, you may be right.

However, what I’m referring to is constructive creative thoughts.  So keep reading.

HOW TO HAVE MORE CREATIVITY IN YOUR THINKING.

  • Watch people.    Go to town, to the lake, or even to the mall, sit on a bench, & observe people.  Imagine what kind of life they lead.

  • Wash dishes or mow the lawn.    These are easy & they both give you a sense of accomplishment, while you’re trying to think.

  • Listen to music.    Listen to whatever music sparks your imagination, whether it’s classical, rock & roll, or something you’ve NEVER heard before.

  • Keep a journal.    Write about your life & what’s important to you, then revisit your old thoughts when you need new ideas.

  • Exercise.    Go for a run, shoot some basketball hoops, do jumping jacks, or anything that starts your blood pumping & keeps your mind sharp.

  • Change your location.    Find a new quiet place; a park, a beach, a library, or just a different room.  Now, let your mind wander.

  • Write it Down, right away.    Write down ideas as soon as you think of them.  Keep a paper & pen with you all the time in the car, in your desk, by the TV & on your nightstand.

  • Do something poorly.    If you’re a perfectionist, don’t be.  Create something that isn’t necessarily your best work, but at least it gets the job done.  Then, go back later to fix it or redo it.

  • Sleep on it.    If nothing is working, your best bet may be to give up for now.  Let you subconscious create overnight & you’ll have fresh ideas tomorrow.

  • Brainstorm with a friend, co-worker, an 80 year old or even a 5 year old child.    Talk with someone who looks at the world a little differently than you do. Chances are he or she will inspire a new approach.

  • Pray & read the Bible.    Putting life into spiritual perspective can take the pressure off & jump start your creative juices.

I have to think there are one, two, maybe at least three of the above thoughts that if used with an open mind, will trigger something in your thoughts to present something creative to you.

Why do you need to have creative thinking?

Learning something new, developing something creative is how you grow, how you expand, how you succeed in life & in this world.

Having new information, thoughts & ideas is what makes you interesting, unique & inspiring.

Don’t let yourself be tempted sit in front of a box that plays games, shows or movies about content they want you to know or see.

Be independent with learning & coming up with your own ideas, thoughts & plans, but what ever you do, do it today!

  1. Love creativity Linda, and the places its found can be mind boggling…I can be doing the most trivial thing, and then somehow, seemingly from out of nothing, an idea or a feeling just takes hold…that’s usually when I end up reaching for a guitar lol!
Thanks for posting, love your tips…Chris!

Thank you Chris. As musicians, we always gravitate to our comfort – our instruments that bring us peace, bring us full circle, bring us joy, & help us make sense of the world around us. It’s a way of opening our minds to make a simple or even complex song out of it. I love your thinking Chris, thank you for sharing.
