“YOU CAN ONLY GET A WORKOUT IN A GYM!”

Um, wait what?  You don’t really believe that do you??

I hope not.

I realize there are a lot of folks out there who really do believe that you can only get a worth while decent workout in a gym, pumping iron & working ALL your muscles.

Ok, you’re entitled to your preferences.

However, medically speaking, there is a much better workout that effects your body in many areas; cardiovascular, respiratory, muscle, joint, bone, neuromuscular & metabolic systems.

It’s even less damaging to you joints, muscles.

The workout I’m referring to can be done by anyone, any age & doesn’t require a spotter, trainer or membership.

If you really want to know what the medical field recommends over & over again as the most helpful & effective workout of all, then you will be very happy to know, it’s walking.

The advantages of walking are much more physiologically better for your body than you thought.

And of course, I’m going to tell you why.

Here’s what you don’t know about exercise

 Walking:

  • Reduces your risk of heart disease.

  • Tones your muscles & strengthens your bones.

  •  Increases your metabolism & helps prevent excess weight gain.

  • Calms the brain, decreasing anxiety & elevating mood.

  • Helps rid your body of harmful stress chemicals.

  • Fits into your life just about anytime, anywhere.

  • Improves your energy.

  • Provides a convenient, nonpainful, nonstressful way of becoming physically fit.

Put on a pair of tennis shoes & your on your way to better health.

It’s best to start out slow & shorter distances to get use to it.

Remember, the distance you walk to, is the same distance you have to walk back.

If you walk an average of 30 minutes – one hour per day 3 times a week minimum, that is an excellent workout.  That will help your body a great deal.

If  you walk 30 minutes – one hour 5 times a week, you’ll even drop some weight too.

How ever long you decide to walk, you will make a huge difference in your body.

You’ll sleep better, be more alert, feel better, you mood swings will decrease, your energy will increase & you’ll feel more at peace.

Walk around a neighborhood, a park, a school track or football field.

If the weather is bad, walk in a mall, many malls are open earlier for the morning walkers before the stores actually open (leave your money at home!)

Do your body a favor, take care of yourself & go walking!  You’ll be glad you did.

??????????????????????????????????????

“I am not a product of my circumstances.  I am a product of my decisions”…

See you tomorrow…

  1. 100% accurate Linda. 🙂 Walking costs nothing unless you need to buy some shoes and it’s something that almost anybody of any age can do. Love your posts!

Walking has been found in the medical field as the most beneficial & least harmful means of exercise. I’m not sure why people feel they need to do more, but to each their own. Thank you Shaun

  2. I can attest to the fact that walking definitely calms the brain, decreases anxiety & elevates my mood. I would recommend anyone who struggles with the idea of walking to get a dog. It is not only the best exercise ever because of the points you raise in your post Linda, but also it’s the most fun exercise to do when you do it with your best friend. I LOVE walking now because of Lucy … she makes it so much fun!

Erica you have discovered the most favorite reasons to walk & that IS with your best friend & fur baby. That is also extremely healthy for the dob as well. If you look around, you can see those dogs that really need to walk more since they’re overweight. Walking does clear out your mind & also springs up new ideas. Thank you Erica.

  3. I love to walk – when I lived in the city I used to live in a neighborhood with tree lined streets and beautiful old homes and it was so pleasant to get my exercise by walking and gazing at the beautiful architecture. That’s like a double whammy of positiveness for the brain when I did that. Thanks for the memories Linda!

You are welcome Nancy, I’m glad they brought you back to a finer time.

  4. I too love to walk Linda and it does all that you said. I do also love to go to the gym a few times a week as I like to build up strength in my upper body as well. I also do yoga and that is my ver favorite. I live in a place where to be fit is very popular and people walk a lot. Great advice.

Thank you Sue. Walking is also sooo healthy for your brain, to clear out the “yuk” & reset itself.
