What Type of Courage Do You Have?

Do you have courage?  Think about that for a minute, do you really have courage?

We’ve learned since we were children that courage is the ability to face our fears, right.

Courage is the quality in your MIND that enables you to face your fears with confidence, & taking firm control of yourself.

Controlling your ‘mind over matter’.

So, if you’re afraid of the water, you control your MIND to face your fear of water with confidence & a firm control of yourself to push through it.

The same use of MIND control-courage, is used for overcoming the fear of insects, animals, darkness, crowds, crossing a bridge, etc. Does it seem more like a gamble than a task?

True example; I’m afraid of spiders & roaches.  To overcome my fear of spiders & roaches, I learned to handle my MIND control – courage, by getting ‘mad’ at the spider & telling it off; “get out of my house, (or garage, or whatever), you don’t come in my house”……….. before I dispose of it.

Okay, a little dramatic I know, but as I child that is how I learned to get my firm control with confidence.  It’s worked since, ‘mind over matter’.

Courage, the quality in your MIND that enable you to face your fears with confidence & firm control of yourself, is handled differently by all of us.

So, now that we agree with where courage comes from & how it works, let me ask you this.  Keep reading…….

If COURAGE originates from MIND CONTROL, then why are so many people having difficulty controlling their emotions, knowing right from wrong, honesty, making sacrifices, taking risks, sharing, controlling pain, among so many other things? hmm  Good question isn’t it.

The courage I’ve already spoke of at the beginning of this post are more visible things aren’t they?

The latter list of examples are more emotional, but wait, they’re both controlled by our minds, aren’t they?  Yes they are.

We seem to find it easier to have courage to overcome the visible fears, but our emotional fears, not so much control there.

Here are some examples: ACTIONS THAT TAKE COURAGE, that many of us have trouble handling:

Speaking to someone you don’t know.

Admitting you are wrong.

Telling the truth & accepting the consequences.

Doing what is right, when everyone else isn’t.

Saying “no” when people are trying to get you to do something you know you shouldn’t.

Defending someone who is considered unpopular or unacceptable.

Facing a limitation & giving it your very best, regardless of pain or discomfort.

Taking a risk.

Being the only one.

Confronting a fear, without running away.

Being the one to go first.

Sharing your heart honestly, that includes your feeling, fears & failures.

Living your faith with all your heart, mind, soul & strength, regardless of the cost.

Giving sacrificially to protect or promote someone you love, or someone wronged, or someone in need.

Speaking out in the minority, when everyone else has spoken in the majority.

I want you to SEE the differences between how we handle courage, so that if you have any one of these, you’ll be able to see how much harder you have to take control of your courage, your mind control to face your ‘fear’, whether it be visible or emotional.

The next time you come across a spider or confronted with admitting or risking something of yourself, take action that takes courage.

Hi Linda

I’ve recently being living my life by this motto with my journey of my definition of courage – Only when we are no longer are afraid, that we begin to live. So far its worked for me, but need to apply it more often than in practice mode. Thanks for sharing 😀

Oh I love your motto Dave & how true it is! You were able to realize this now & it’s never too late for anyone to find their motto. But, just find it so you can start living & moving on. It’s a work in progress, but the work starts with yourself. Thank you Dave for your insight.

Great post Linda. I love your list at the end. Very good sentences to think about and have the courage to do.
